The Albatross is a bird that spends most of it's time over the open ocean. They are rarely seen on land so they have many adaptations that help them with this. First, the Albatross has special shoulder locks that allow it to keep its wings outstretched so it can glide with wind currents and fly for days with minimal energy consumption. Second, the Albatross has two long tubes along the sides of it's bill that act as nostrils. The Albatross can smell food from miles away across the open ocean which is very unique for birds. It is also believed that Albatrosses sleep while gliding due to the danger of sleeping while floating due to predators such as whales. This hasn't been proven but scientists believe it to be true.
