The Aye-Aye has the adaptation of having a long middle finger that allows it to find insects in trees and obtain other food. The animal will tap on a tree with the finger and listen for insect larvae underneath. It uses the same finger to fish them out. The finger is also used to scoop out fruit, such as the flesh of coconut. Both of these uses, in addition to being able to hang on trees, allows the animal to use the unique structure of its middle finger to obtain necessary food for survival.
