The Peacock Mantis Shrimp is an incredible crustacean. It can see parts of the spectrum that are invisible to other animals; it can perceive UV light using its' amazing eyes. It can dart forward with more force than a bullet and can burrow into coral, rock and other animals with a single strike.
Its' colors (gray to brown) resemble the light-colored rocks in its' environment; however, as it is a powerful predator, it does not need to hide most of the time. The adaptation of being able to fluoresce enables it to communicate information like the date and/or time with other shrimp. It lives for many years and usually mates for life; it lives about 20 years after mating. It can flip itself into a wheel and wheel itself around on land. It can jump a meter into the air, enabling it to escape holes that it has gotten itself into and escape tidal pools.
A mantis shrimp has a urine stream powerful enough to cut hands, protecting it from humans that would wish to eat it (Filipinos consider it a delicacy.)
