Adaptation

This is the hellbender salamander. It lives in the rivers of the Ozark Mountain Range in the Mid West of the USA. It's distinctive adaptation is the development of extremely light sensitive photoreceptors in its tail. This allows it to know whether its tail is exposed to sunlight or not. This is useful in its river home to make sure it is completely hidden and its tail isn't sticking out. Survival would be improved by a member of the species with this trait as they would able to hide themselves under rocks from a predator quicker and better.
