The long neck of a giraffe not only distinguishes it in the Southern deserts of Africa, but allows it to reach the highest leaves for consumption. In addition, they have longer front legs then back legs, which allows them to reach the tops of trees. The interesting and unique pattern of their skin protects them from predators while in the rainforest. Giraffes have very tough lips to protect them from thorns often encountered while eating from rainforest trees. These interesting adaptations have allowed giraffes to survive to repopulate, keeping their species alive.
