Walkingsticks are insects with an adaptation that allows them to camouflage with the trees and plants in which they live in. They use mechanisms called crypsis which include camouflaging with the surroundings and defensive mimicry to protect against predators. (Some species even have spines to look similar to the host plant or are able to change colors.) Most walkingsticks also have glands to let off harmful gases. This is another useful defense mechanism against predators which will often release walkingsticks once tasting these gases.
