Adaptation

A Sarracenia (North American pitcher plant) is a carnivorous plant that resides in the southeast of the US. The leaves have evolved into "hood-like" structures that have a flap on the top to prevent rain water from flooding the plant and diluting the digestive juices. Insects are tricked into coming to the plants because of their attraction to the color, and fragrance of the plant.  When the insects land on the plant, a slippery nectar causes it to fall into the plant where they die and are digested by the enzymes of the plant.
