Adaptation

The Io moth is a large moth that inhabits a large portion of of Eastern North America. It demonstrates an adaptation that allows it avoid being consumed by predators. Though males are usually bright in color, they lave large black spots on the middle of their wings with smaller white spots in the middle. This is a beneficial adaptation because these spots resemble eyes of much larger predators. These spots are able to scare off some the smaller moths predators such as lizards or rodents. Because it is less likely to be eaten, it will be able to survive and reproduce.
