Concentrated in Indonesia and Malaysia, the Dead Leaf Butterfly demonstrates an adaption to mimic dead leafs in order to camouflage. Its wings match the texture, color, and size of brown dead leaves so it can hide both on trees and the ground. Additionally, before it lands on leaves, the butterfly positions its wings to match the positions of the surrounding leaves. This ability enables the butterfly to avoid predators and thus thrive and reproduce. However, this unique species is currently succumbing to deforestation and pollution caused by humans.
